My Great Grandmother

50 years ago my Great Grandmother was predicting the future through the placement of tea leaves in her cup.

Quietly humouring the family with “it’s only a bit of fun my dear.” This would be her go to line as the family lined up for her fortune telling which was renowned for its mind blowing accuracy.

Gran Bell also learnt how to read cards through her travels in India and Egypt, but again was encouraged to keep her gift within the family quietly.

Recently I found out, through a conversation with my great Aunt, that 100 years before that my great great grandmother would quietly take to her knees all day in the church. Connecting in through air and prayer until the sun went down and she was reminded it was time to go home. Again sitting quietly in church, letting the energy move through her. To use for her and her alone.

My Great Grandmother and I share the same birthday.

I often wonder what she would make of her great granddaughter who she held as a little baby, doing this work, our work out in the world.

Today I get to use my gifts not so “quietly.”

What a privilege.

What a time to be able to do this work.

Most of us don’t have to hide in churches or living rooms or behind cards anymore.

During my time here I intend to pave an even greater way for my great granddaughters to come.

Perhaps they might even share my birthday too.

Either way, I intend to give them a lot of stories to tell about the woman who boldly claimed her gifts so others could too.
